D’Iberville Elementary School cafeteria undergoing major modern makeover

When students at D’Iberville Elementary head back to class on August 8, they will see AND feel a big difference in the school cafeteria. The kitchen is undergoing a major makeover this summer, including the installation of energy-efficient air conditioners, modern kitchen equipment, and touch screen electronics.

“The cafeteria has operated mostly year-round for the past four decades and was really showing its age. We understand that today’s student customers are more savvy than ever. They not only eat with their eyes, but want to dine in a nice and modern environment. Crews have worked tirelessly to complete this large project during the short summer time span so that the facility could return to full operation when students return,” said Brad Barlow, Harrison County School District Child Nutrition Director.

The improvements include:

* Energy-efficient hood ventilation system
* Utility distribution system to protect all utility lines
* Eight AC units
* New ceiling kitchen
* New lighting
* Several new pieces of equipment, including cabinets and cashier stations
