Harrison Co School District Achieves Largest Point Increase on Coast on MDE Performance Grades
The Mississippi Department of Education released Performance Level Grades for schools and school districts from across the state today, and accountability results from the 2016-17 school year show scores in the Harrison County School District rose significantly. Of the three counties on the Mississippi Coast, Harrison County has the largest increase in total points.

D’Iberville High Ties at Second Place for Top ACT Averages among Coast Schools
The ACT results for the Class of 2018 have been released, and D’Iberville High ranks among the top scoring schools in South Mississippi! D’Iberville High seniors tied for second place on the Coast, with an average ACT score of 21.0. That is three points higher than the state average! A total of 306 students at D’Iberville High took the national college entrance exam, which tested their knowledge in English, Math, Reading and Science.

Army Simulator Gives Harrison Co Students Sense of Impaired, Distracted Driving Dangers
It looked like fun and games, but students at all three high schools in the Harrison County District learned a serious lesson about drinking alcohol and driving! The U.S. Army brought its Distracted Driving Trailer to each high school. Students took turns behind the wheel of a drunk driving simulator. They also wore drunk goggles while driving a go cart, then they tried to walk in a straight line while wearing the drunk goggles.

Harrison Co Schools Donate Over 20,000 Items to Houston Schools Affected by Hurricane Harvey
Schools in the Harrison County School District have collected over 20,000 items for students, teachers and staff who were affected by Hurricane Harvey. Journalism students at West Harrison High School loaded the supplies onto a trailer. The Krewe of Neptune and Knight Transportation volunteered to transport the donations to Houston to help the Aldine Independent School District.

: A Harrison County school that opened three years ago is about to get even bigger. Preliminary work is underway and the excitement is building as River Oaks Elementary prepares for a $2.1 million expansion project. The Harrison County School Board recently approved plans to add ten classrooms to River Oaks to accommodate a growing student population.

Harrison County Students Use Fruits, Flashlights to Learn Solar Eclipse Lesson
Some sixth graders at Saucier Elementary School used fruits and flashlights to learn about the upcoming solar eclipse. Ms. Beth Witt brought this fun, interactive lesson to her students Thursday morning. The orange represented Earth, the grape tomato represented the moon, and the flashlight represented the sun. The students did such a wonderful job with the demonstration and helping to "shed some light" on this celestial event that will take on Monday.
