2018 HCSD Valedictorians & Salutatorians

Hats off to these students for earning excellent grades and graduating at the top of their class!  Meet the 2018 valedictorians and salutatorians of all three high schools in the Harrison County School District.

Emily Wright

Emily Wright is the Class of 2018 Valedictorian, and Alexis Rae Benoit is the Class of 2018 Salutatorian for Harrison Central High School.

Emily is the daughter of Samuel and Jeanne Wright and the sister of Amanda, Eddie, Melissa, and Jeremy. While at Harrison Central, Emily served as President of the National Honor Society and Mu-Alpha-Theta, Key Club Lieutenant Governor for the Louisiana Mississippi and West Tennessee District, Key Club President, Interact President, Beta Club Member, and a member of Students Against Destructive Decisions.

Emily was involved in student council as Class President and then, as Executive Student Body President. She was also selected to be a captain of the Lady Red Rebels soccer team, where she had lettered since her freshman year. Emily was also involved in the Junior Leadership Program, National English Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, and the National Technical Honors Society. She was selected as the 2017-2018 Faculty Student of the Year, which is the highest award and honor that the faculty can bestow on a student.

After graduation, Emily plans to attend the University of Mississippi to pursue a degree in Biomedical Engineering on a full scholarship. Emily will also be a member of the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College while enrolled at Ole Miss. After earning her undergraduate degree, Emily plans to attend medical school with the intentions of eventually becoming a surgeon.

Alexis Benoit

Alexis Rae Benoit is the daughter of David Benoit and Tabatha Benoit. In 2016, Alexis was selected by Harrison Central High to attend the Hugh O’Brian Leadership Conference. During her junior year, Alexis took the Mississippi Career Planning and Assessment System (MS-CPAS) test for her marketing class, and she obtained the highest CPAS score in the state.

While keeping her grades up, Alexis participated in soccer, swim, cheer, track, and golf. She has lettered in three varsity sports and was the sole female chosen to represent Harrison Central as their Lindy Callahan Scholar Athlete District Nominee.

This year, Alexis’s class voted her Senior Class President. Harrison Central presented Alexis with the Science Department Award, and the teachers voted her as this year’s female All-Around Student.

Alexis plans to attend Louisiana State University to pursue a degree in either Biological Engineering or Biochemistry. She, then, plans to further her education at medical school, where she will become an orthopedic surgeon.

Sydney Riemann

Sydney Rebecca Rollins Riemann is the Class of 2018 Valedictorian, and Hillary Shay Jordan has been named the Class of 2018 Salutatorian of West Harrison High School.

Both of these ladies are exemplary students! They have also been involved in numerous academic honor societies, as well as school-related activities and community events throughout their time at West Harrison.

Sydney is the daughter of Kris Riemann and Ginger Sims, and she is the sister of Alexandra Riemann. Sydney is a member of the WHHS Hall of Fame and 30+ACT Club. She also served as National Honor Society Secretary, Class Officer in 10-12 grades, Captain of the Cheerleading Team, Secretary of Mu Alpha Theta, Captain of the Diamond Darlings, and was involved in Lead to Feed, Powerlifting and Junior Leadership.

Sydney received a full scholarship to the University of South Alabama, where she plans to major in biomedical sciences and pursue a medical degree.

Shay Jordan

Shay has been very active as well. She is involved in Junior Leadership, and played on the 9th Grade Basketball Team. She is a member of the National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society, National English Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Rho Kappa, Beta Club, and Book Club. She has also competed in DECA competitions at the district, state and national level.

Shay has been a member of the school band for the last four years. She played the trumpet and acted as the section leader. Her most memorable experience was performing with the West Harrison Band in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

After graduation, Shay plans to attend the University of South Alabama and major in nursing.

Cindy Nguyen

Cindy Nguyen is the Class of 2018 Valedictorian, and Jonathan Mingoti is the Class of 2018 Salutatorian of D'Iberville High School.

Cindy is the daughter of Nick and Thu Nguyen and sister to Dillan and Danny Nguyen. Born in Biloxi, Cindy has attended D'Iberville schools since first grade. Throughout her high school career, she has been a member of numerous organizations, including Student Council, Mu Alpha Theta, National Honor Society, the 30+Club, and Junior Civitan. She has served as president of the Key Club, vice president of the Math and Science Team, and secretary of the Foreign Language Club. Cindy plans to attend the University of Mississippi, where she hopes to pursue biomedical/chemical engineering.

Jonathan Mingoti

Jonathan is the son of Jefferson and Sandra Mingoti, and brother to Christian and Bianca Mingoti. Jonathan is originally from Connecticut and moved to Mississippi when he was six years old. He has attended D'Iberville schools since 5th grade. Throughout his high school career, Jonathan has been a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Beta Club, Key Club, Junior Leadership, Student Council, Math & Science Team, and Foreign Language Club. He served as the president of the Foreign Language Club, Vice President of Mu Alpha Theta, Secretary of the Math & Science Team, and Treasurer of the Key Club. Jonathan will be attending the University of South Alabama this fall, and plans to pursue a career in dermatology.

We are extremely proud of these students' amazing accomplishments, and we wish all of these high-achieving students the best as they pursue their college and career goals!
