The Mississippi Department of Education released scores for the 2018 third-grade reading assessment this week, and the results look quite impressive for students in the Harrison County School District!  Congratulations to North Woolmarket Elementary School and Pineville Elementary School! All of their third graders passed the test.

Overall, a majority of the schools in the HCSD scored higher compared to last year.  As a district, the percentage of third graders who passed increased by two-percent.

Here is a breakdown of all the elementary schools and their percentage of passing students:

Bel-Aire Elementary:  94.4%

Crossroads Elementary :  97.8%

D’Iberville Elementary:  95.0%

Harrison Central Elementary:  95.4%

Lizana Elementary:  95.7%

This state-wide reading assessment (Literacy Based Promotion Act) is very important, because third graders must pass it in order to be promoted to the fourth grade.  Students who did not pass will have two more opportunities to retake the test in the coming months.
