Fresh Fruit & Veggie Program Expands in HCSD

HARRISON COUNTY, MS (September 7, 2022) – Harrison County School District is pleased to announce the expansion of a federal program that provides free, healthy fruits and veggies to our elementary students. The following 14 schools have been awarded the USDA’s Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program (FFVP) Grants:

• Bel-Aire Elementary

• Crossroads Elementary

• D’Iberville Elementary

• Harrison Central Elementary

• Lizana Elementary

• Lyman Elementary

• North Gulfport Elementary (New)

• Orange Grove Elementary

• Pineville Elementary

• River Oaks Elementary

• Saucier Elementary

• Three Rivers Elementary

• West Wortham Elementary (New)

• Woolmarket Elementary

“The District has been very fortunate to grow this competitive grant program from two schools in 2016 to 14 in such a short amount of time. Providing seasonal fresh snack items that may not be available during the regular breakfast and lunch programs is critical toward establishing lifelong healthy eating habits,” said HCSD Child Nutrition Director, Brad Barlow.

Featured items include Starfruit, Pineapple, Snow Peas & Ranch, and Mango, just to name a few! The program starts on September 12 and runs through the entire school year.
