(HARRISON COUNTY, MS) March 20, 2023 – Tonight, the Harrison County School Board honored the 2023 HCSD Parent of the Year – Mrs. Jillian Echang!
Mrs. Echang currently serves as president of the PTA at West Wortham Elementary & Middle School. She was nominated for demonstrating a strong commitment to her family and to the school. She has taken her own personal time to provide support and services to the faculty, staff, and students at West Wortham. Mrs. Echang has been the ultimate team player when it comes to ideas, fundraisers, and raising awareness of issues that need attention to benefit the students.
Mrs. Echang is described as resourceful and helpful. She has consistently offered to help in any manner, no matter the task. Mrs. Echang is an advocate for children and their education through her relentless effort for the school. She is considered a wonderful asset to the Wolf Pack family!
Mrs. Echang continues to prioritize the needs of the students and staff. One of her main objectives is to ensure staff members feel appreciated and valued for their hard work. Below is a list of some of the events Mrs. Echang has spearheaded during her time at West Wortham:
- Recognized and thanked the staff for their dedication & commitment to the school community.
- Raised $2,000 for PTA fall fundraiser.
- Advocated for a new school playground & blacktop upgrades.
- Headed the annual Veterans Day Breakfast for over 400 attendees.
- Organized the first Winter Dance for over 500 students & raised nearly $2,000.
- Coordinated Christmas gifts for all West Wortham teachers.
- Initiated the adoption of bylaws & process of becoming a 501©(3) organization.
Mrs. Echang and her husband Anthony are the proud parents of three children:
- Jayden (West Wotham 4th Grader)
- Aries (West Wortham Kindergartner)
- Autumn (4 Years Old)
Mrs. Echang believes being involved in her children’s education is a top priority.
“My children’s education, paired with my involvement, will create the people I want them to be in today’s society. I volunteered to be president of West Wortham’s PTA, and my kids have seen me around their school on a regular basis. This has shown them my commitment to them and their education, as well as my efforts in improving their school environment,” said Mrs. Echang.
“Parent involvement also promotes better behavior at school from my kids. They’re always striving for good grades and test scores and are developing great social skills. I believe this is, in part, because they know it matters to me and that as a parent, I care about their success. I believe being involved in my children’s education has made a positive impact on their lives and the lives of their peers.”
HCSD would like to congratulate Mrs. Echang on this prestigious recognition, and we thank her for the significant difference she has made for students at West Wortham.
