HCSD Ranks High on Kindergarten Readiness Test

(HARRISON COUNTY, MS ) July 22, 2022 – We are pleased to report Harrison County School District ranks among the top three high-performing districts in South Mississippi when it comes to gains in kindergarten readiness.

According to MDE, results comparing the Fall 2021 Kindergarten Readiness Assessment to the Spring 2022 test showed HCSD's average scale score jumped from 497 to 732. That is a 235 point increase! Over 73% of students in HCSD scored at or above 681, which is the state’s benchmark score.

Congratulations to Lyman Elementary for achieving one of the highest scores in the state! Lyman earned an average scale score of 780, with 90.54% of students scoring at or above the benchmark.

Lizana Elementary also performed well, with 89.29% of students scoring at or above the benchmark. North Woolmarket Elementary came in third in HCSD, with 88% of students scoring at or above the benchmark.

The Kindergarten Readiness Assessment provides parents, teachers, and early childhood providers with a common understanding of what children know and are able to do upon entering school. You can view the MDE data here: https://www.mdek12.org/OPR/Reporting/Assessment/2021-22.
