HCSD Announces Teacher, Administrator, Parent of the Year

HARRISON COUNTY, MS (March 1, 2021) –  The Harrison County School Board recognized three special ladies for their exemplary service and dedication to the students and staff. During Monday’s board meeting, HCSD Superintendent Roy Gill presented awards to the 2020-21 Teacher of the Year, Administrator of the Year, and Parent of the Year. In years past, the winners were announced during a packed board room. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, this year’s winners were notified in advance.

Congratulations to the following honorees:

HCSD is proud to announce that Harrison County School District’s 2020-2021 Teacher of the Year is Mrs. Kimberly Wood! She was honored during Monday night’s Harrison County School Board meeting.

Mrs. Kimberly Wood has taught English I and English II at Harrison Central High for the last five years, as well as, serving as the Student Council sponsor. She has been an educator for a total of 23 years.

Mrs. Wood is a proud product of HCSD. She graduated from D’Iberville High and her son, Caleb, is now a junior at DHS. Mrs. Wood knew she wanted to be a teacher at the age of 16, and her high school English teacher inspired her to teach English.

Mrs. Wood views her educational career as a calling and strives to give each day the very best possible. Her students are the reason she continues to teach, and she believes they are often the best teachers in the classroom.

Mrs. Wood expressed how surprised, humbled, and grateful she felt to be named this year’s Teacher of the Year. HCSD appreciates Mrs. Wood for her support, service, and dedication to the students of HCSD.

HCSD PARENT OF THE YEAR: MRS. CHAUNDREA ALLEN
Chaundrea Allen

Mrs. Chaundrea Lakay Allen was quite surprised when she heard her named announced during Monday night’s Harrison County School Board meeting! That’s because Mrs. Allen did not know that she would be receiving an award for being named Harrison County School District’s 2020-2021 Parent of the Year.

Mrs. Allen has two children attending Crossroads Elementary: Kevin Allen, Jr. and Kenslie Loren Allen. She is also the school’s PTA president.

“As their mom, they look up to me to advocate for them and lead them by example. I want my children to understand that I am going to always support them in every endeavor they encounter. I grew up with a lot of support from my mother in my education and I know that it pushed me and gave me extra motivation to succeed in school, therefore, I want my children to at least have that same opportunity,” said Allen.

HCSD appreciates Mrs. Allen for her many volunteer hours, support, and dedication to the students and staff of Crossroads Elementary! HCSD is blessed to have her. Congratulations!
