HCSD Announces Teacher, Administrator, Parent of the Year

HARRISON COUNTY, MS ( February 21, 2022) – It was an exciting night in the Harrison County School District as district leaders announced the 2021-22 HCSD Teacher of the Year, Administrator of the Year, and Parent of the Year!

Congratulations to the Harrison County School District Teacher of the Year – Mrs. Julia Speed! The surprise announcement came during Monday night’s HCSD School Board meeting. Mrs. Speed is a History and Social Studies teacher at West Harrison High. She is a graduate of HCSD and has been a teacher in the district since 2008. Mrs. Speed started her career at West Harrison High in 2011 and has served as the school National Honor Society sponsor, student council sponsor, and class sponsor for many years.

“I didn’t expect to get that. It was really nice to be recognized for the hard work that we do as teachers and as employees of the district, but yes, it was definitely a surprise! I love helping my students! I love enriching their lives with the knowledge that I have. I hope that I offer a safe space that’s exciting for them to come and learn new things, just like I did when I was a student in Harrison County. As an educator, because I am a product of the district, I have a real vested interest in seeing them be successful, so I love coming to work every day!” said Mrs. Speed shortly after the announcement.

That honor went to Ms. Morgan Bogolin, who has a daughter attending kindergarten at River Oaks Elementary. Ms. Bogolin played a huge role in rebuilding the PTA at River Oaks and is currently serving as the PTA president.

“I was definitely surprised! My day job is with the Bous and Girls Clubs of the Gulf Coast, so kids is something I’m really passionate about and dedicated here in Harrison County and now that my daughter is in kindergarten at River Oaks, they have a great team there!
