North Gulfport School Dedicates New Playground

North Gulfport School Dedicates New Playground

(HARRISON COUNTY, MS ) September 16, 2022 – Excitement filled the air at North Gulfport Elementary School today as students enjoyed their first opportunity to swing, climb, and slide on their brand-new playground! North Gulfport hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to dedicate the school’s new $60,000 playground. The project was made possible thanks to generous donations and in-kind services from businesses, organizations, former principals and students, and other supporters from across the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

The playground is especially significant because this is the first time in more than 40 years that North Gulfport has needed an elementary playground. During the 2021-22 school year, North Gulfport Middle School expanded by adding elementary classes for students from kindergarten through 6th grade.

As word about the elementary playground project spread, contributions poured in from communities across South Mississippi. All the needed funds were raised in just six weeks, and several local businesses pitched in to prepare the space to make the playground goal a reality. Those patrons were recognized during the program.

This is phase one of the project. Fundraising is underway to expand the playground for phase two. HCSD would like to thank everyone who contributed to this wonderful project and for joining us to celebrate the opening of the new playground. As you can see on the children’s faces, they loved it and look forward to playing on it every day!
