Two Retiring HCSD Board Members Honored for Service

(HARRISON COUNTY, MS) December 12, 2022 – On Monday night, Harrison County School District Superintendent Mitchell King recognized two retiring school board members for their combined 36 years of service to the Harrison County School District. Mr. Tom Daniels dedicated 24 years to HCSD, and Mrs. Rena Wiggins spent 12 years serving on the board.

Mr. Daniels ran for the school board position back in 1998. Before that, he worked as a state trooper, justice court judge, and risk manager for the city of Gulfport. Mr. Daniels is also a proud military veteran. His wife and two daughters all taught in HCSD.

“Education has always been a big part of my family and I’m glad I was able to contribute to help educate and prepare students for their future. It’s been a joy seeing all the new school buildings and all the achievements over the years. I am especially proud that HCSD has moved up to an A-rating and I hope it continues on this path,” said Daniels.

Mrs. Wiggins also has strong ties to HCSD. Prior to running for office, she served 11 years as a school resource officer at numerous schools in HCSD. Mrs. Wiggins actually began her SRO career when the program first started in HCSD. Both of her children are graduates of D’Iberville High.

“I’m proud to have had the opportunity to serve. I appreciate all the directors, administrators, and teachers, plus, the parents for their faith, support, and trust over the years. This is a team sport, and it takes us all working together to achieve our goals,” said Wiggins.

“I’m proud of the leadership provided by these school board members,” said King. “They worked behind the scenes and made tough decisions and set policy in efforts to make the district better. It takes courage and integrity, and I thank them for their commitment and service to the students and staff of the Harrison County School District.”
