ALMA MATER
Hail to thee our alma-mater
Hail to Dear HC
Love and honor brought us thus far,
Faith shall keep us near
Lift the chorus, speed it onward
For the Red and White,
Hail to thee our alma-mater,
Hail to Dear HC!
Far above the Gulf's shore waters,
With its wave so blue,
Stands our noble alma-mater,
Glorious to view
Lift the chorus, speed it onward
For the Rebel Pride,
Hail to thee our alma-mater,
Hail to Dear HC!

Harrison Central High School serves 1622 students, ninth to twelfth grade, through 144 dedicated faculty members. It offers its students a state of the art learning environment with Internet access in all classrooms so all students can become part of the global society. Most classrooms have four computers for students to use during the school day. Students have access to a fully automated library and media center as well. A variety of educational programs such as after-school tutoring, Enrichment courses, and online curricula provide students with a wealth of opportunity to excel and achieve. Each teacher can better meet student needs as well with data warehousing resources developed by district personnel. These resources allow teachers to profile the past performance of a student and better meet the specific needs of the individual student.

- The school’s curriculum must continuously improve if students are to become confident, self-directed, lifelong learners.
- Through cooperation among administrators, teachers, students, parents, and community, the school’s mission advances.
- A safe and orderly school climate is conducive to student learning.

ROTC PROGRAM
GOLD STAR

MARCH 13, 2012
STAR STUDENT AND TEACHER

Kyle Stoner has been recognized as Harrison Central High School's STAR (Student-Teacher Achievement Recognition) Student for the 2011-2012 school year. Kyle is the son of Todd and Michele Stoner of Gulfport. He is president of the National Honor Society, a member of "The Pride of the Coast" Harrison Central High School Marching Band, Vice President of the Interact Club, and a member of several other clubs. Kyle has lettered in cross country and soccer. Kyle is the recipient of the Gulfport Exchange Club's Student of the Month Award and the Diocese of Biloxi's St. Timothy Award.
Star students are chosen on the basis of scholastic excellence by comparing students' American College Test scores and academic averages. Each STAR student designates a STAR Teacher, the classroom teacher who has made the greatest contribution to the student's scholastic achievement. Kyle has selected Spanish teacher Sharon Johnson as his STAR teacher.

Johnson has been teaching for 23 years, and this is her fourth selection as STAR Teacher. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Southern Mississippi. She is the sponsor of the Spanish Honor Society and the Student Council.
On March 23, 2012, HCHS Junior, Lindsey Wolverton was elected President of the Interact Club District 6840 for the school year 2012-2013, and HCHS Junior, Deanna Moore was elected Vice President. Harrison County School District
(Part A: No Child Left Behind Act of 2001)
The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 requires school districts to publish report cards containing certain information. The required information falls into three general areas: school improvement, teacher qualifications, and test data. A school that fails to make adequate yearly progress in achievement must be identified for school improvement. The report must contain information about the professional qualifications of teachers in core academic subject areas [English, reading, language arts, science, mathematics, foreign languages, arts, civics and government, economics, history and geography]. Highly qualified teachers are those who satisfied the NCLB criteria during the school year. The report must also contain achievement data for specific subgroups, two-year achievement trends and student participation rates.
Please contact the principal of your child's school if you have questions about this report.

The Do's and Don'ts for Enjoyable Spring Break
-
Do wear sunscreen, at least SPF15 or higher. Apply it generously throughout the day.
-
Do wear a hat outdoors and a good pair of sunglasses to protect your eyes.
-
Do wear a life vest when boating.
-
Do swim with a buddy and try to stay close with people you trust at all times.
-
Do drink plenty of water, especially when in the sun or if you are sweating heavily.
-
Do know your surroundings, who you can call for emergencies, and where exactly local emergency departments are located.
-
Do get enough sleep. Don't overdo the activities. Sleep deprivation equals bad decision making.
-
Do take any medications and proof of insurance along with you.
-
Do get proper training from experts before taking part in athletic or skilled activities like surfing, water-skiing, and scuba diving.
-
Do carry a cell phone with you at all times in case of emergencies.
-
Do trust your instincts. You know what's right, you know what's wrong.
-
Don't consume illegal drugs.
-
Don't drink alcohol if you're underage
-
Don't assume everything is okay if you feel like you're getting ill. If you feel ill, it's your body's way of saying, slow down. Listen to it.
-
Don't go to isolated places with a stranger or someone you do not fully trust.
-
Don't just think about the impulse, think about the consequences.
