: Harrison Central High graduates take senior walk to inspire elementary students

Before seniors at Harrison Central High School walk across the stage later this month, they took part in another special procession. On Friday, the soon-to-be graduates walked through the gym at River Oaks Elementary School in their caps and gowns for all the 5th and 6th graders to see.

The seniors also answered questions from the students, like what courses are offered at the high school, what was their secret for not dropping out of school, and what was their best experience over the last four years? One student asked a very interesting question: “If you could go back to 5th grade, what would they tell yourself?”

One senior replied: “I would study harder and focus more on improving my grades.”

The “Senior Parade” was part of dropout prevention efforts at River Oaks. The goal was to motivate and encourage the younger students to make graduation their destination. Harrison Central High Principal Averie Bush and several high school counselors were also on hand to answer questions and explain their expectations from the students.

Thanks to all the Harrison Central High seniors and staff who took the time to give our elementary students some great advice!
