HCSD Champions Heart Health & Becomes Top Participating District in MS

(May 19, 2026) – Harrison County School District is excited to announce that HCSD has been recognized by the American Heart Association - Mississippi as the #1 School District in Mississippi for our outstanding efforts in fundraising, training, and heart health education!
Through this partnership, our students learned to serve others and save lives through the “Kids & American Heart Challenge”. A remarkable $26,000 was raised district-wide to further the American Heart Association’s life-saving research and mission, and 135 families learned the lifesaving skill of Hands Only CPR.
Two schools placed within the Top 10 schools in Mississippi:
•Lyman Elementary School raised $5,045 & 30 families learned Hands Only CPR.
•D’Iberville Elementary School raised $4,100 & 17 families learned Hands Only CPR.
WXXV visited Lyman to see how the school has implemented heart-healthy activities and spoke with Youth Heart Ambassador Jaxon Patterson. The 2nd grader had heart surgery when he was only 4 weeks old! For the second year in a row, he raised the most money at Lyman — $677.00!
We would also like to recognize three of our schools that were awarded wellness grants through their participation in the Kids Heart Challenge for Physical Education Equipment & Staff CPR Training:
•Pineville Elementary School
•D’iberville Middle School
•West Harrison Middle School
Congratulations to our 15 schools that participated in this lifesaving program! We look forward to continuing to work towards remaining the top district in our state!
