(February 19, 2024) - West Harrison High Principal Dr. Michael Weaver has been named 2024 Administrator of the Year in the Harrison County School District. Dr. Weaver was recognized on Monday night by HCSD Superintendent Mitchell King and the Harrison County School Board.

“This truly is one of the greatest things to be honored with. There are so many amazing administrators in this district, and I am honored to be a part of this amazing team. The teachers and staff of West Harrison are the real reason for this success, and the students are the best part of going to work each day. Thanks to Mr. King and the School Board for this great honor. A huge thank you to my wife, Debbie, for being so supportive,” said Dr. Weaver.

Dr. Weaver has spent 24 years in education as a teacher, coach, and administrator in Harrison County and Jackson County. He is a graduate of Harrison Central High School. He received his bachelor’s degree from The University of Mississippi. He went on to graduate from William Carey University with a master’s degree, then finished his Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Southern Mississippi.

Dr. Weaver has served as assistant principal of North Gulfport Middle School and West Harrison High. He served as principal of West Wortham Elementary & Middle School before taking over the position of principal of WHHS in 2022.

Dr. Weaver feels his greatest accomplishment is having West Harrison High achieve the number one high school ranking in Mississippi for the 2021-22 and 2022-23 school years. He believes being part of breaking the state accountability score record for two years in a row is an important milestone in his career.

“We have increased our graduation rate and have seen a growth in post-secondary enrollment. Our dual credit numbers have continued to rise, and we see an influx of students willing to take college coursework early. I have made it clear to the teachers that in our halls, we are encouraging our students to grow academically. The teachers at West Harrison High truly and sincerely care for the students; as an administrator, that is something I am proud to witness,” said Weaver.

Dr. Weaver is a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving 24 years on both active duty and the Mississippi Army National Guard as a Combat Engineer. During his distinguished military career, he served several tours overseas, including humanitarian and nation-building joint task force missions and two combat tours in Iraq. Dr. Weaver is a recipient of the Bronze Star.

We would like to congratulate Dr. Weaver on his prestigious recognition as HCSD’s Administrator of the Year!
