Surprising April District Novice Teacher of the Month

(May 21, 2026) – From overcoming a devastating house fire and dropping out of school to becoming a first-year teacher and receiving a prestigious education honor, Dr. Marcelene Hart’s journey has been built on perseverance, faith, and the strong support of family and mentors.
Today, we had the joy of surprising Dr. Hart with the HCSD April Novice Teacher of the Month Award! She received a certificate of recognition, a $50 gift card, teacher supplies, and balloons from the Huntington Learning Center of Gulfport.
Dr. Hart’s path to education at the Harrison County Career & Technical Center began last summer when she applied for a teaching position in the Health Sciences program. In September, she joined the CTC team, standing at the front of the classroom, inspiring future healthcare professionals.
Behind Dr. Hart’s success is a powerful story of resilience and determination. She left school at a young age due to a house fire that displaced her into many different school systems.
“I became a high school dropout. Later, I started a family, and education was the last thing on my mind. Eventually, I earned my GED and went on to train as a CNA, followed by becoming a Medical Assistant, completing an EMT-B program, earning my ADN-RN, BSN, MSN, and then the big one — an EdD in Higher Education Adult Learning.
My family believed in me when I never believed in myself. Along my journey, I have had some of the best mentors a person could ask for. I am truly blessed to begin this journey with Harrison County Career & Technical Center Health Sciences and to have earned Novice Teacher of the Month!
Never give up and never stop learning!”
Dr. Hart’s story is a heartfelt reminder that it is never too late to believe in yourself and chase your dreams.
Congratulations on this special recognition, Dr. Hart!
