Important School Attendance Policy Update

The Mississippi Department of Education has updated its student attendance requirements starting in the 2026-27 school year.
Please review these important changes:
- Students must attend at least 66% of their school day to be counted as present for the full day.
- Parents/guardians must be notified after a student’s 3rd absence, whether the absence is excused or unexcused.
- Students are allowed up to five excused absences per semester (includes all excused absences, whether supported by a parent note or medical documentation).
- Additional excused absences beyond the semester limit require principal approval based on documented extenuating circumstances.
- All absences beyond the 3rd occurrence must be supported by a written excuse from a medical provider.
- Students who are absent for more than 33% of their school day may not participate in school-sponsored activities that day, unless they have received prior approval from the principal.
Every day in class counts toward our students’ future success. Thank you for partnering with us to ensure your child is present, engaged, and ready to learn each day.
