Surprising Sept. 2026 HCSD Novice Teacher of the Month

(October 28, 2026) –  What a special moment for an amazing novice teacher at Harrison Central High School!

Mr. Nathan McKissick was surprised right in his own classroom with the exciting news that he was named our September 2026 District Novice Teacher of the Month! Our education partner, Huntington Learning Center of Gulfport, presented him with a certificate of recognition, a $50 gift card, a goodie bag, and balloons.

Mr. McKissick was born and raised on the Mississippi Gulf Coast in a military family. In high school, he was in the Collegiate Academy program and graduated in 2022 with an Associate of Arts degree. He later attended Milligan University on a cycling scholarship. Along the way, Mr. McKissick realized he wanted to make a lasting impact on the next generation and decided to pursue a career in education. He is currently enrolled in USM's Alternative Master of Education program.

Reflecting on his journey, Mr. McKissick shared:

“My life has been shaped by the many teachers who have personally impacted me. Those teachers, along with the many adult leaders with Mississippi Gulf Coast Youth for Christ, BSA Troop 209, and the BSA Pine Burr Area Council, have helped instill the values that have made me the man I am today. As an educator, I aim to be able to have the same impact on the youth of tomorrow that these adults have had and continue to have on my life.”

Please join us in congratulating Mr. McKissick on this well-deserved honor!
